Lauren and Makai planned an intimate destination wedding in Hawaii, which I can’t wait to share more of on my Instagram. However, for their formal wedding photos, they wanted to go to a location that felt like home. Lauren grew up in Utah, and Albion Basin is a favorite mountain location in this area. Though this spot is most iconic for its early summer wildflowers, we planned Lauren and Makai’s session as the leaves were changing, and it was jaw-dropping.
Lauren and I met in our college photography program, and studied there together for 2 years. Working with another photographer on their own wedding photos is always an honor and a joy. It is fun to see our creative processes come together.
Lauren has fantastic taste, and chose an elegant bridal silhouette, classic veil, and pearl accessories. These timeless choices left room for a vibrant bouquet – which included a bright and happy take on a fall color palette, instead of the more traditional muted version of reds and yellows. All of it looked gorgeous with the golden hour light and iconic bright yellow aspens in the distance.
For Lauren and Makai’s first look, we found an extra quiet Albion Basin spot. This field of dry golden grasses encircled by pine trees felt reverent and peaceful. I loved that this special location allowed this first look to be more than a picture perfect photo op. It was a sentimental moment for these friends of mine, and they had space to soak it in.
After their first look, we ventured higher up the mountain to overlook the majestic view. Somehow each spot we visited grew more breathtaking. We ran around taking photos until the sun set!
This session was photographed mostly on Porta 800 film, and was developed and scanned at The Find Lab. You can find more vendors from this Albion Basin fall bridals and formals session below.
