Bree is an amazing Utah florist I’ve had the privilege of working with in the past. Her and her husband Gavin are so easy going and fun to photograph. Bree describes her work as a florist as “minimalistic and airy” and it was beautiful to see that feeling shine through this simple photoshoot as well.
We took these photos at a Salt Lake City park, which offered a calming background of dusty green tones. Bree and Gavin brought along a blanket, and it was the perfect opportunity for them to cuddle a bit and shake off any nerves.
If being photographed is not comfortable for you, try bringing along a simple prop like this neutral blanket. You’ll be surprised when you have another option like this, instead of just standing for more traditional poses. I love doing this for family photos as well, as you can see during this other recent Salt Lake City family session.
For these simple couples shots, I told Bree and Gavin to pick clothing they were comfortable in, and that made them beautiful and handsome. Too often people seem to go all out with outfits for their photo sessions, and end up feeling stuffy or uneasy. I think nothing will photograph better than an outfit you feel like yourself in.
I loved how their pieces came together and photographed against the lush greenery. Their simple white button-downs and soft colors popped against the long grasses. If you aren’t sure what to wear for your engagement shoot or other session, you can’t go wrong with a white button-down.
You can find other couple’s sessions with comfortable outfit inspiration here and here.
You don’t need a special occasion to plan photos with your spouse. Of course, an anniversary is always a great opportunity to schedule photos, and document your changes over the past year. However, sometimes all you need is a blanket and an afternoon with your partner while I snap some photographs. Just like this simple park shoot with Gavin and Bree shows.
