I joined Deepti and Sahil’s wedding as a second photographer for Natalie Bray Photo. This Malibu Indian wedding was an explosion of color and culture.

As you can see throughout my wedding galleries, I love documenting the ways different cultures weave their history into a wedding day. From the ornate red Vietnamese bridal gown this bride wore for her reception. Or the ways this Italian family’s traditions influenced the theme and decor of this entire wedding. And especially getting to document my own Tongan heritage during family shoots like my sister’s engagement photos.

Deepti and Sahil found many ways to balance each of their traditions, as well as bring their unique style to this top Malibu wedding venue – Calamigos Ranch. First, Deepti donned her bridal saree, with her hands and forearms adorned in henna. She joined Sahil for a first look, where he wore shades of cream and blush to match his soon-to-be wife.

Their wedding ceremony took place under one of Calamigos Ranch’s gorgeous oak trees, which was transformed into a traditional mandap. With handmade floral chains hanging down, this ceremony felt so intimate and peaceful. Both sets of parents sat near the happy couple underneath the unique mandap. Meanwhile, the rest of Deepti and Sahil’s guests watched from the lawn.

A Lively Wedding Reception in Malibu

After their cocktail hour on the lawn (complete with a ferris wheel!) the guests moved inside. Here Malibu floral designer Bloom Box mixed bold and vibrant shades with more traditional blush pinks. That combo reflected the entire wedding day so well. To wrap up their special day, Deepti and Sahil enjoyed happy toasts from their parents and a joyous first dance.
